Measurement and Simulation of Tidally Affected Groundwater Level on the West Coast in Central Taiwan

Abstract: The rise and fall of the tide and the tidally afftected groundwater levels were simulated with a simple model at the Chang-Hwa Industrial Park Project site on the West Coast of Central Taiwan, using previously developed equations. In addition, a previously developed method was used to determine the mean or average water elevation of each well. A new water level averaging method was developed when the first method did not appear to yield an adequate representation of the mean of the data collected from the Chang-Hwa Project location wells, which do not exhibit a theoretical aquifer response. An error analysis performed on the data indicates that groundwater elevation data can be collected every two hours instead of every hour, as proposed by several authors, without incurring a significant error.
