Abstract: Geologically, th e study area lies within the Benin Format ion (Coastal Pla in Sands), of which the sediments are unconsolidated and sandy. It contains many soft rocks which are more susceptible to soil erosion. The correlation of grain size analyses showed that the sediment on the river beds came from the eroded upland. The coastal sands are medium to coarse grained, mo derately to poorly sorted. The hydrodynamic measurements revealed that the two rivers (Njaba and Mbaa) discharged different volumes of water with relatively large quantities of suspended sediment load. This varies within the seasonal periods. Hydrochemical analysis carried out indicated moderate concentration of toxic substance and elements being discharged into the surface water of Mbaa and Njaba rivers. Typically, erosion and sedimentation control plan calls for conservative practice to retard the hazardous effects of run-off, sediment yield and possible pollution of our environment.
