Abstract: The Seine is not one of the most powerful rivers in the world. Its average flow is only 250m3/secbut by the fact it crosses Paris,it is known and visited by the tourists of the whole world. On the other hand,Paris could come to the world thanks to this nutrient artery. This partnership between Paris and the river Seine is indissoluble and symbiotic. Examining this interaction,it is obvious that Seine has given a lot to Paris and received in exchangethe nuisances of that wonderful historical city. Gradually men have transformed the very nature of that watercourse scattering it with prosthesiswith the intention of enslaving it to human needs. In this way,in the upper reaches of the seinecatchment, dams have been set up to avoid the floods in Paris in winter and to increase the flow insummer. There are also numerous weirs all along the river which purpose is to keep the water level in thereaches. The banks in Paris are at the meeting point between this complex hydraulic system and the humanactivities, that's why,for a long time, man has made improvements to facilitate the contact with theriver.
