Abstract: In recent years, large power stations have been constructed close each other on the coast inJapan. Then need monitoring the adjacent seas to power stations widely and immediately has beenincreasing. The satellite observation can be expected as an effective method for the oceanicmonitoring. In this study, the applicability of the satellite infrared data to the oceanic monitoring wasestimated.First, the practicability of the LANDSAT/TM data to the monitoring of the warm waterdischarge was examined at several oceanic areas.Second, the template method, which computesthe velocity of the surface water mass displacement by the temporal change of the SST(SeaSurface Temperature)distribution, was applied to the sea off Fukushima using theNOAA/AVHRR data.
