Abstract: DELFT HYDRAULICS was assigned in 1987 to provide Technical Assistance to theHydraulics and Sediment Research Institute(HSRI),one of the eleven researchinstitutes underthe umbrella of the Water Research Center (WRC)of the Ministry of Public Works and WaterResources(MPWWR)in Egypt.The technical assistance project is named "Hydraulic Studieson the Nile River and its Structures".The project started in February 1988 for a period ofthree years.The main objective was to transfer scientific and technical expertise from DELFTHYDRAULICS to HSRI.The main aim o involving DELFT HYDRAULICS in this project wasto enhance the scientific and technical ability of HSRI so that HSRI can fulfillthe main tasksfor which it has been established namely:to solve the hydraulic problems related to the multi-disciplinary use of the Nile River and its associated irrigation and drainage networks in themost efficient way.
