Abstract: This paper reports the results obtained in the first attempt to apply in Spain a stochastic model of space-time rainfall for practical purposes in flood prevention and control. A parameter estimation procedure has been applied to an existing model (Rodriguez-Iturbe and Eagleson, 1987), using rainfall data provided by the Automatic Hydrological Information System (SAIH), instaled at East and Southeast part of Spain. This investigation shows the feasibility of the application of such standard multidimensional model for the SAIH information system, through the development of a software tool that allows manipulation on source data to match format requirements, statistical description of observed fields, numerical simulation and parameter estimation for the cited model.
