Abstract: The rivers in south-eastern Asia abound in suspended sediments. According to hydrological data, they can sometimes tran sport as much as 12 kg solid sediments per cubic meter annually during the flood period. This fact should be considered while designing and constructing hydraulic engineering structures since the variation of river flow regime at the damsite can in certain periods result in considerable sedimen tation which may further complicate and even hinder the construction process.
