Abstract: A number of experiments of flows past rough boundaries have been conductedusing various kind of roughness elements for basic and practical purposes,Whilethey provide guidelines for the estimation of hydraulic resistance laws of theroughnesses in flows, the turbulent structures over such rough beds have not yetbeen clearly understood.Knowledge about the characteristics of turbulence inrough open-channel flows is necessary to understand the mechanism of momentumand mass transports which are important to environmental problems as well ashydraulic engineering.Recently, numerical calculation techniques have beendeveloped to solve the turbulent flow in a smooth open channel by the aid ofaccurate experimental data。In order to develop the modelling of the roughturbulent flows, more detailed experimental data of the turbulent structure inrough open channel flows are required.
