Abstract: A computational code was developed by ENEL (Italian Electricity Board) in order to simulate in 3-D the dispersion in natural water bodies of thermal discharges from power plants. It has been operational for more than a decade. In this period field surveys were carried out in order to check the accuracy of results. All these surveys referred to surface outlets. Recently the experimental data from a physical model of a submerged outlet were available. In this paper the authors present the comparison between computed and measured temperature distributions for a real case and for the case of the above physical model.
