Abstract: Computational and experimental characteristics of flow are compared in the downstream region of a conical diffuser with approximately 5° angle of inclination. Two representative stations are selected, for comparison against experimental measurements 1D_2 and 10D_2 after the diffuser exit. Calculations using the Navier-Stokes equations in conjunction with the k-ε model of turbulence indicate understimation of mean velocity and turbulence kinetic energy in the first station while satisfactory agreement is obtained in the second station for the mean velocity. A modified k-ε model, sensitive to adverse pressure conditions, improves the predictions considerably.
