Abstract: For 1D numerical models computing flows in a river network, head losses dueto a confluence are unknown. The aim of the study presented here was to obtain adatabase and basic rules for evaluating these head losses. As a first step, before asystematic series of computations,it was shown that TELEMAC,a finite elementsoftware for shallow water equationswas in good agreement with a scale model. In the present paper we shall give first some deails about TELEMAC,itsnumerical scheme and vectorisation, then we shall present the head losses study.
