Abstract: Mud deposits mantle lake and reservoir floors beyond the depth of disturbance by water surface waves. Blister-like slides detected b y sidescan sonars occur at 15-20m, the depth range of the thermocline. Exceptional shoaling internal waves on the thermocline increase bed deposit thickness and induce downslope motion.
