Abstract: The convective motions set up in reservoir sidearm s as the result of unequal heat capture due to the sloping bottom have been shown to be a potentially significant mechanism for the lateral transport in a reservoir. In this paper a simple idealised m odel of the process, based on a distribution of sources and sinks in a triangular domain is introduced, and som e preliminary numerical results are given. These indicate that the m otion for sm all forcing, increases monotonically, but suggests that at larger forcing an oscillatory behaviour m ay be present.
