Abstract: Phosphorus (P) has strong affinity to react with suspended sediment particles. Spatial diffusion and exchange among different phases of P happen under the influence of flow-sediment transport. This manuscript investigated P sorption onto suspended sediment with the change of flow velocity (V) ,initial concentration of dissolved P (C0) ,and sediment concentration (S) in an extended annular flume. The process of kinetic sorption could be finished within 6 hours, with 80%of P sorbed in the first an hour. The change rule of both P sorption amount per mass of sediment at the time point t (N t) ,and sorption amount at equilibrium state (N e) were negatively associated with V in low P concentration, and positively associated with V in high P concentration. N e would increase with C o and the decrease of S, while the total amount of P sorption (TAPS) in the experiments would increase with both C0and S. The Langmuir isotherm adsorption model to describe P sorption in equilibrium condition was better than other equations mentioned in this paper.
