Abstract: Large typhoons and localized heavy rains have frequently caused breaches in river levees. Predicting overtopping erosion is crucial for mitigating damage in the downstream areas. This study employed a shallow-water flow model and a two-dimensional vertical model with seepage flow to investigate the impact of different flow models on the prediction of overtopping erosion. The results indicate that the influence of model differences on topographic changes is minimal for small embankments and that the shallow-water flow model is sufficient for the analysis.
