Estimation of Suspended Sediment Load by Artificial Neural Network

Abstract: In this study, the monthly flow rate and suspended sediment load (Qs) of Karamenderes Stream in Turkey for the years 1996–2004 were estimated with an artificial neural network. Flow discharge and water temperature were used as inputs, and suspended sediment load was used as output. A total of 94 data measurements were available. All data were normalized to guarantee stable convergence of weights and biases. The normalized formula used is provided, and statistical information of the normalized data set is presented.
