Abstract: The purpose of this paper is twofold. We reformulate the parabolic system of governing equations as hyperbolic balance laws with stiff source terms. Second, following a flux splitting approach, we derive a novel robust and efficient numerical method that makes the approach proposed ideal for the modelling of river water temperature dynamics in real rivers.
