Abstract: We investigate the features of velocity profiles observed in a systematic series of flume experiments of solid-liquid mixtures in the grain-inertia range. The dimensionless profiles collapse using as a scale the runoff velocity. The shape of profiles suggests the presence of different stress generating mechanisms. A power law characterization is proposed following a heuristic approach based on a coherence length compatible with a spatially varying rheology.
