Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture is the largest lake in Japan and plays a vital role in the water management of the Yodogawa River basin. The lake and its water resources have long supported lakeside communities in Shiga and have made significant contributions to the development and prosperity of the Keihanshin region with the large cities of Osaka, Kyoto, and Kob
