Abstract: This study presents the application of genetic algorithms to estimate the parameters of two-population Gumbel bivariate distributions function; automated numerical root-finding algorithms are applied to get flood volumes. Subsequently, discharge-volume curves are developed for several return periods. Design floods are shaped using polynomial functions, and flood routing is performed using numerical methods to generate outflow hydrographs. The Infiernillo dam is a case study, whose excess work faces the challenges of climate change.
