Abstract: Flash floods in Yunnan’s mountainous plateau are sudden, destructive and hard to warn. Using the MIKE SHE model and controlled variable method in Shili River catchment, we found precipitation controls peak discharge, high soil moisture lowers critical rainfall, river length positively relates to travel time while slope negatively relates exponentially, sandy loam mitigates runoff and silty clay amplifies floods. The coupling model supports flash flood warning, zoning and mitigation.
