Abstract: A non-intrusive method, based on laser-sheet illuminated imagery and image processing techniques, was used to explore the phenomena of natural dispersion of oil in a water column. The method was used in a laboratory experiment to determine the distribution of oil droplets in the water column. The findings of this study suggest that this approach is a fast and accurate way to sample oil droplets in a water column without disturbing the flow.
