Abstract: The paper presents a mathematical schem eable to model the evolution of deposition-erosion processes in a one-dim ensional stream, also taking into accountnon uniform grain-size m ixtures and possibly non-equilibrium of sedim ent transport rates. Instead of describing the sedim ent transport for fractions, that is, each fraction by means of its continuity equation, the model uses mean diameter and second-order (and possibly third-) moment of grain size distribution. As a consequence the num ber of equations and variables is reduced.
