Abstract: In this paper, non-hydrostatic simulations are presented to model wave propagation over a breakwater and validated against laboratory data. Our model is a finite volume, depth-integrated shallow water model with the non-hydrostatic term to account for the dispersion effect. The model is of spatially third-order accurate and utilizes the κ-ϵ turbulence term to deal with recirculating flows around the breakwater. A non-negative depth reconstruction is devised for the model to simulate the wet-dry processes on the coastline, behind the breakwater. Our results show accurate predictions to reproduce the temporal distributions of wave height and wave period measured at several observed points. This study enhances our comprehension of predicting wave-structure interactions and the hydrodynamic processes with continuous wet-dry flow interfaces around the coastline, thus laying the groundwork for future advancements in addressing coastal issues especially in relation with offshore structures.
