Abstract: Dry granular flows are an important paradigm both for industrial applications and geophysical processes. The work reports on image measurements regarding homogeneous and steady flows of identical particles over a loose bed in a rectangular channel. Flows involving solid particulates have been widely studied in the last few decades for their relevance into explaining the dynamics of complex phenomena that can be observed in nature. Among them, dry granular flows driven by gravity and running over a loose bed are extremely useful to model geophysical flows like snow-avalanches and some types of landslides. Flows of this type are strongly influenced by the boundary conditions, such as the lateral confinement and the bottom conditions, whose effects on the flow dynamics are still not clear. This work has a double objective of: i) providing accurate measurements of the vertical and cross-wise patterns of the streamwise velocity, granular temperature and concentration for a wide range of flow conditions; and ii) of assessing the effects of the boundaries on the investigated variables.
